The Problem With “I’ll Start Tomorrow”

“I’ll start tomorrow.”

We’ve all said it.

Maybe you have a business idea. Maybe you want to build an app, start a project, learn something new, or finally work on that idea you’ve been discussing with your friends for weeks.

You think about it.

You plan it.

You imagine what it could become.

And then you tell yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow.”

Tomorrow becomes next week.
Next week becomes after exams.
And eventually, the idea just disappears.

The strange thing is, most of us don’t actually lack ideas. We hesitate to start because starting makes the idea real. Once you actually try, there’s a chance it might fail—and thinking about an idea is always safer than testing it.

But here’s the thing: your first attempt isn’t supposed to be perfect.

Your first prototype might look rough. Your first pitch might be awkward. Someone might reject your idea. You might even discover that your “perfect” business idea isn’t something people actually need.

That’s not necessarily failure.

That’s feedback.

Instead of trying to build something huge, start small. Talk to people who face the problem. Sketch your idea on paper. Build a basic prototype. Ask someone, “Would you actually use this?”

You don’t need a million-rupee budget, a huge team, or years of experience to take the first step.

And college might be one of the best places to do it.

At GGCT, you’re surrounded by people with different skills, interests, and ideas. Through Inspire × E-Cell, students can explore entrepreneurship, share ideas, meet people who are interested in building things, and turn those ideas into something more than just a conversation.

You don’t have to walk into Inspire × E-Cell at GGCT with a perfectly developed startup.

You can walk in with a question.

You can walk in with a problem you’ve noticed.

You can walk in with an idea you’re not even sure will work.

That’s often where the interesting part begins.

Don’t Wait Until You’re “Ready”

There’s always going to be another reason to wait.

After the exams.

After learning one more skill.

After finding the right teammate.

After getting some money.

After becoming “good enough.”

But there may never be a moment when everything lines up perfectly.

At some point, you have to decide that starting imperfectly is better than waiting perfectly.

Maybe you spend one evening researching your idea. Maybe you talk to five potential users. Maybe you build a tiny prototype over the weekend.

It doesn’t have to be huge.

It just has to be the first step.

What If It Doesn’t Work?

That’s probably the question stopping you.

“What if I try and it fails?”

Then you’ll know something you didn’t know before.

You’ll understand what didn’t work. You’ll learn what people actually want. You’ll become better at explaining your ideas. You’ll make mistakes—and the next time you try something, you’ll start with more experience than you had before.

The bigger risk isn’t always failing.

Sometimes, it’s spending months wondering:

“What if I had just tried?”

So, What Are You Waiting For?

Think about that idea you’ve been postponing.

The business you’ve been discussing.
The project you’ve been planning.
The skill you’ve been meaning to learn.
The problem you’ve been complaining about.

Don’t ask yourself whether you can turn it into a huge success today.

Ask yourself something much simpler:

What’s one thing I can do about it today?

Send the message.

Make the sketch.

Talk to someone.

Build the prototype.

Write the first line of code.

Share the idea.

Take the first step.

Because maybe tomorrow really is the right time.

But maybe you’ve already said that yesterday.

And maybe the best time to stop saying “I’ll start tomorrow” is today.

A Note from Inspire × E-Cell, GGCT

At Inspire × E-Cell, GGCT, we believe entrepreneurship doesn’t have to begin with a perfect business plan.

Sometimes, it begins with a student who notices a problem and decides to do something about it.

So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect idea, the perfect team, or the perfect moment—

start small. Start curious. Just start.
